The Best Pubs and Restaurants in Abersoch (and a Few in Llanbedrog)
We’re looking forward to another year of trying fabulous food in Abersoch and the surrounding areas. Not sure where to go? Here are some of our favourite spots to eat, drink and the new places we’re excited to try!
Tremfan Hall’s Bistro Burger and Chicken Katsu Burger.
For a proper evening out
Tremfan Hall, Llanbedrog
Start close to home, because Tremfan Hall is one of the best restaurants in the area and not nearly enough people know about it. It's a Victorian country house sitting above Llanbedrog headland, with views across Cardigan Bay and Snowdonia, and the food matches the setting!
The menu is modern British with French influences, built around excellent ingredients and changed regularly. The "Old Smokey" starter (smoked haddock, prawns and cheese baked in a pot) comes up in nearly every review we've ever read. There's also a Sunday roast that's worth planning a whole day around. It's a short drive (or 10 minute walk) from Tawelfor and very much worth it. Book ahead – particularly for evenings and Sundays.
The Potted Lobster, Abersoch
This one's seafood through and through, and it's earned its place among the village's most sophisticated evening options.
The freshly caught lobster is the obvious order, and rightly so, but the wider menu leans hard into local catch and handles it with real care. It's a smaller, more intimate space than the hotel restaurants on this list, which makes it a good choice when you want something a little less formal but still worth dressing up for. The terrace comes into its own on a warm evening, and bookings are recommended, particularly at weekends.
It's an easy one to fit into an Abersoch evening, whether that's the main event or a stop before drinks elsewhere.
Porth Tocyn Hotel Restaurant, Bwlchtocyn
Two AA rosettes. Continuously listed in the Good Food Guide since 1957. Run by the same family for four generations.
Porth Tocyn sits on a gentle rise above Abersoch with some of the best views on the peninsula, and the restaurant has been a benchmark for serious food in this area for decades. The evening menu runs to four courses and changes regularly. Expect excellent Welsh produce and the kind of cooking that doesn't need to show off to impress. It's open to non-residents for lunch and dinner, and the terrace on a fine evening is hard to beat!
It's the kind of place you go when you want to make a night of it.
Enjoying a Parma Crust pizza at Abersoch Harbour
Crust Pizzeria, Abersoch
Reliably our favourite casual evening option, and I say that having eaten a lot of pizza in a lot of places. Crust does wood-fired Neapolitan-style pizzas with toppings that are a little more interesting than the usual suspects, in a setting that's lively without being chaotic.
It gets very busy in peak season so book ahead, or go early.
Fresh Bar & Grill, Abersoch
Fresh has been a stalwart of Abersoch evenings for years, and it keeps getting things right. The menu covers a wide range – steaks, fish, pub classics done well – and the atmosphere is reliably good. It fills up fast in summer. Bookings only for food; worth calling ahead.
Nwdl, Abersoch
Where Kin & Co used to be, and a worthy successor. Nwdl does Asian-inspired noodle dishes and is unlike anything else in the village. The calamari is to die for, it has a decent wine list and the flavours here are insane. It's earned strong reviews since opening and has become a local favourite quickly for a very good reason! It’s good for groups – and for something a bit different after a week of pub dinners.
Ginger and Soy Wings at Après Sea
For a pub lunch or a relaxed drink
The Ship Inn, Llanbedrog
This is oe of our locals, and we're fond of it. It's a proper Welsh pub – unpretentious, good for a pint, decent food – with a stunning beer garden that catches the evening sun nicely. It's a two-minute stroll from Tawelfor, which makes it dangerous in the best possible way.
The Vaynol, Abersoch
The Vaynol has one of the best beer gardens in Abersoch, which in summer is reason enough to seek it out. It's a solid pub that does everything you'd want from a village local, with good drinks, food that won't let you down, a decent atmosphere. The garden is the main event on a sunny afternoon.
St Tudwal's Inn, Abersoch
A relaxed, friendly pub in the heart of the village. Good for lunch, good for a drink before dinner, good for sitting outside when the weather cooperates. It has a beer garden too, and it books up in summer – worth bearing in mind.
For coffee, brunch and lighter bites
Llanbedrog Beach Bar
Right on the sand at the far end of Llanbedrog beach. Cold drinks, light food, a sea view, and the particular pleasure of having nowhere better to be. If you're staying at Tawelfor it's a three-minute walk. We consider it an essential part of the holiday.
Zinc Café, Bar and Grill, Abersoch
Zinc does breakfast, lunch and evening meals and has been an Abersoch staple for years. The marina views from the terrace are hard to beat on a summer afternoon. Good for families, good for a long, lazy lunch.
A quick practical note
Abersoch in June, July and August is busy. The good restaurants fill up faster than you'd think for somewhere this small, particularly at weekends. If you have a specific place in mind, book as soon as you can – even for the smaller or lesser known places!
Shoulder season (April, May, September) tends to be easier. You can often walk into places that would need a week's notice in August, and the whole experience is a little more relaxed for it.
